Exactis exposes 340 million personal records because they didn't have firewall protection.

Exactis is a marketing giant who has been exposed by a security researching firm for exposing 340 million records (That's more than the Equifax hack). You probably havent heard of them but chances are they have information that may belong to you or someone you know. The database, which was not secured, consisted of 2TB of data! This information was simply left open for anyone with mild knowledge of cyber security to access.

The data luckily didnt contain any financial information (looking at you equifax) but it did contain very personal infromation such as personal interests, home and email addresses, religious beliefs, smoking status, phone numbers, and even the number, age and sex of a family's children. Luckily some of the data wasnt current but it is still concerning that someone might have known some serious information about you and your family. This being said, we are lucky in that this information appears to be only obtained by the security company and none of it has yet been used for malicious reasons.

Hopefully this sends a message to all "data mining" companies to better secure our infromation!
